The Island of Tortuga (la Tortue)
The northern Island of Tortuga Is a Caribbean island that forms part of Haiti. In a remote part of the island there are some people that are subject to a difficult life. All they have is an unfinished church which also serves as a location for children's schooling. We noticed there were a lot of young men and women who attended the church but they did not have much to look forward to in life. No future ahead of them and in a way, no hope whatsoever.
Education For A Brighter Future
Elevate Them wanted to make a difference in their lives, in hopes of a better future. We did this by providing this group of men and women with the tools needed to improve their living conditions. With the approval of the church's pastor we decided to open up a center . With the use of a sewing machine and an oven, the participating men and women were able to learn how to sew and make various clothing items. They also partook in culinary lessons in which they learned to prepare various dishes and baked goods.
Technical School For The Island of Tortuga
Elevate Them's goal is to open a technical school in the future. The technical school would provide them with the necessary tools and equipment that they need as well as better classrooms for an enhanced learning environment. With this technical school we hope to help build careers and improve lives of men and women on the Island of Tortuga.
